TRENTON, NJ / ACCESSWIRE / September 11, 2024 / The Diocese of Trenton's Department of Catholic Schools has been awarded a multi-year grant to establish a designated fund supporting teacher stipends in local Catholic schools. This grant follows the success of the Diocese's 2023 Summer Enrichment program, which addressed COVID-19 learning loss through personalized initiatives in local schools. "The success of this program inspired us to create a fund to uplift Catholic educators," said Ashley Talamo, Program Director at the Mike & Patti Hennessy Foundation, which is proud to support this endeavor.

This grant aligns with the Foundation's mission to help Catholic education thrive by addressing students' academic, emotional, spiritual, and social needs. The Diocese will use the fund's income to provide stipends for teachers who demonstrate excellence and innovation, while also supporting professional development, leadership programs, and scholarships for advanced degrees or certifications. The Diocese has long fostered a culture of innovation and excellence, making it a leader in shaping the future of Catholic education.

"This grant underscores our commitment to enhancing the quality of education in Catholic schools," said Ashley. "We are proud to partner with the Diocese of Trenton, a leader in Catholic education, to support and recognize the dedication of those shaping our future leaders."

A portion of the annual earnings will inspire innovation and encourage schools to develop successful fundraising initiatives aligned with the fund. This approach aims to foster community engagement and support for teachers, driving widespread involvement in advancing our Catholic educational mission.

"We know that our Catholic schools are filled with teachers and leaders who are highly motivated and committed to cutting-edge program development, and in fact, they chose to work in Catholic schools specifically because our schools make it easier to be creative and innovative professional educators," said Bonnie Milecki, Assistant Superintendent School Development & Operations of the Diocese of Trenton. "We have teachers who crave freedom and autonomy to add new school programs, to experiment with their content, and who seek their own growth and professional development. We never want a lack of resources to be the reason they can't try something new. The Mike & Patti Hennessy Foundation has been a powerful partner by supporting the unique identity of each Catholic school, empowering leader and teacher autonomy, and trusting that educational leaders can design powerful learning opportunities for kids when funding sources are available for them to be creative and take risks."

This grant represents a long-term investment in the sustainability of Catholic education within the Diocese. By supporting and recognizing its teachers, the Diocese of Trenton aims to foster a culture of excellence that benefits educators and students for generations.

The Diocese invites alumni, parents, and community stakeholders to support this mission. Contributions to support the Department of Catholic Schools can help ensure a brighter future for our local schools and the dedicated teachers who serve them.
