In March 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic ravaged the entire world and left no stone unturned. With several lockdown protocols imposed on a global scale, many industries were forced to shut down and were deemed inoperable without a moment’s notice. The unprecedented global event left many businesses without a lifeline, forcing them to survive all on their own. It was a hard time for everyone, and even longstanding businesses such as the Coyote Ugly Saloon had to suffer the brunt of its impact.
Fortunately, co-founder Joanna Danielle Olsen never turned her back on Coyote Ugly Saloon. In fact, when the going got tough, the empowered entrepreneur steeled her nerves and ran with the punches. Such a bold move came as no surprise for the tenured entrepreneur, and as she celebrates her 25 years in the industry, Olsen recalls how she faced adversity during the looming global pandemic.
To put things into perspective, Joanna Danielle Olsen brought Coyote Ugly Saloon to Tampa, Atlanta, and Panama City Beach after collaborating with its founder Liliana Lovell. Since expanding into these key locations, the bar has gained tremendous success and worldwide acclaim. Dubbed “the most famous bar on the planet,” the famous chain brought incredible opportunities for women to express themselves while entertaining patrons from all walks of life.
In 2000, Coyote Ugly Saloon grabbed the attention of famous Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the film “Coyote Ugly” with the bar as its prominent setting. The film of the same name was loosely based on the life of Elizabeth Gilbert, “The Muse of Coyote Ugly Saloon,” who described her life working at the Coyote Ugly Saloon in New York City.
The film earned a massive cult status among audiences and further boosted the bar’s name recognition, introducing the saloon to a wide variety of patrons. Despite its international acclaim, Coyote Ugly was forced to suffer under extreme circumstances in the face of the COVID-19 global pandemic.
When all seemed to be lost, Joanna Danielle Olsen utilized her resilience and strength of spirit to carry the brand onwards. Making some of the toughest choices throughout her entire business career, Joanna managed to help Coyote Ugly Saloon survive.
Admittedly, the experience was nothing to scoff at, but the firebrand entrepreneur stood tall and proudly claimed, “The biggest challenges for me have been the unexpected acts of God that I have to stay resilient through. From COVID-19 to staffing my bars and staying positive as a leader has been something I have embraced well,” said Joanna. “I have really established a great core management team that has grown with me since the beginning. They have been an integral part of my success. Navigating through obstacles of being an entrepreneur and business owner while staying relevant with the times along with staffing over 200 people jobs.”
Growing up in the face of adversity, Joanna Danielle Olsen fully acknowledges the challenges she has faced, along with everything she has learned throughout her seasoned business career. “Through my life experience, resilience and 25 years of being an entrepreneur, I have learned to never give up no matter what obstacles come my way. Each city has brought its individual challenges that I have had to overcome,” she shared.
Ultimately, without the resilience and excellent leadership of Joanna Danielle Olsen, Coyote Ugly Saloon wouldn’t have stood a chance against the negative effects of the global pandemic. As the world slowly shifts back into a sense of normalcy, Coyote Ugly Saloon stands as a bastion of hope with Joanna Danielle Olsen at the helm of such a magnificent business triumph.
