PR Log - Sep 20, 2012 - The winners of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s annual photo competition have been announced. The overall winning picture taken by Jessica Hilton was chosen by Chris Packham who enthused, “The enigmatic grasshopper takes the biscuit. Mildly abstract, unusual, peeping and most importantly a familiar, everyday subject portrayed in a surprising and attractive way. Top marks. I love the total green-ness!”
The aim of the competition, organised by Emma Pereira, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, was to encourage the residents of Hampshire and the Island to take photos of the fantastic variety of nature and wild places to be found in the two counties. Entrants were asked to upload their photos to the photography sharing website flickr, and now 12 winning photos have been chosen to create the 2013 Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust calendar.
Emma Pereira said, “We had over 2,500 entries of an extremely high standard. They show off the diversity and beauty of our living landscapes which as a Wildlife Trust we are passionate about protecting. Choosing the winners was no easy task, but we are very happy with the twelve finalists and our Vice President Chris Packham chose the ultimate winning photograph. It’s featured on the front cover of the calendar and our winner, Jess Hilton from the Isle of Wight, will also receive £150 to spend at London Camera Exchange in Southampton High Street.”
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s 2013 calendar will be available for sale (£5) from the middle of October on the Trust’s website www.hwt.org.uk. All monies raised from the sale of the calendar will go towards the work of the Wildlife Trust.
