ALSP to come under ACEDS umbrella in merger of legal training, networking leaders

PRLog - Jun 06, 2013 - MIAMI -- The Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists today announced that the Association of Litigation Support Professionals (ALSP), whose broad network of members and stakeholders reaches all sectors of the litigation support field, has come under the ACEDS banner. The acquisition joins two champions of legal learning and career development that share a common vision of training, networking, and knowledge.

As part of the agreement, ACEDS will name ALSP executives Winlock Brown, Esq., of The Lorenzi Group, Barbara Bennett, of Stout Risius Ross, and Karen LaFleur of LeClairRyan, to its Advisory Board, and extend to ALSP members the full benefits of ACEDS membership. The various chapters of ALSP, which command high numbers and active participation in major cities across the US, have been invited to reform as ACEDS chapters.

ACEDS will also dedicate a section of its website, ACEDS.org, exclusively to the electronic data issues facing litigation support practitioners.

The merger represents the consummation of an enduring partnership forged in the formative stages of each association. In August 2011, ALSP officially endorsed the CEDS certification in lieu of building its own. That agreement portended a greater alliance between the two associations that now comes full circle. The premier litigation support peer networking organization in the US, ALSP expands the ACEDS mission to bring e-discovery competence and career benefits to those who wrestle with the challenges wrought by electronically stored information in their professions.

The associations share a similarly broad and diverse community of practitioners, whose members include litigation support managers and analysts, attorneys, paralegals, technical support staff, consultants, service providers, records managers, and jurists.

Robin Thompson, National President of ALSP, said, “Becoming a part of the ACEDS group provides support and structure for our membership. When ALSP endorsed the CEDS certification, we realized that our organizations had the same goals in mind -- to provide the best in education and to provide a defensible, independent certification to the profession.  Joining the associations was the natural evolution in our process.  We are thrilled to be part of the ACEDS family, and look forward to helping ACEDS continue to grow.”

Robert Hilson, ACEDS Editorial Director, added, “ACEDS and ALSP share similar pursuits, and the issues, challenges, and struggles facing our respective memberships broadly overlap. This was a natural pairing, and one that will go far in achieving our goals of fostering e-discovery competence and professional advancement among legal practitioners globally.”

“ALSP is a name brand in the legal field,” he noted. “We have and will continue to benefit from the distinguished reputation that it has built.”
