Intevac Camera Selected for International Military Helicopter Platform

Intevac Photonics, a subsidiary of Intevac, Inc. (Nasdaq: IVAC) announced today that their ISIE10 EBAPS® camera was selected as the digital low light sensor for a major international helicopter night vision-based landing system. This application will assist pilots with safe landings by sending pertinent data directly to the crew’s helmet-mounted display reducing the need to look into the cockpit for speed and other vital information. This is the first international military helicopter program to use Intevac’s digital low light camera and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to international military applications for digital low light camera systems.

“We are extremely pleased to work with Sekai Electronics on the first fielding of our digital low light cameras to an international military customer,” commented Drew Brugal, executive vice president and general manager of Intevac Photonics. “The unique capability of the ISIE10 EBAPS camera is that it provides high definition imaging in both day and night conditions that are critical to helicopter landing system applications.”

The ISIE10 sensor in the digital camera is based on Intevac’s patented EBAPS (Electron Bombarded Active Pixel Sensor) design of digital imaging sensors for extreme low light level detection. This camera operates in the visible and near infrared portion of the light spectrum for multiple military applications, from surveillance to landing systems and weapon sight applications.

About Intevac

Intevac was founded in 1991 and has two businesses: Equipment and Intevac Photonics.

In our Equipment business, we are a leader in the design, development and manufacturing of high-productivity, vacuum process equipment solutions. Our systems are production-proven for high-volume manufacturing of small substrates with precise thin film properties, such as those required in the hard drive and solar cell markets we currently serve.

In the hard drive industry, our 200 Lean® systems process approximately 60% of all magnetic disk media produced worldwide. In the solar cell manufacturing industry, our LEAN SOLAR™ systems increase the conversion efficiency of silicon solar cells.

In our Photonics business, we are a leader in the development and manufacture of leading-edge, high-sensitivity imaging products and vision systems. Our products primarily address the defense markets.
