Excellence In The 2011 Zinfandel Vintage Highlights Paso Robles Terroir
PRLog - Nov. 19, 2013 - PASO ROBLES, Calif. -- Respected Paso Robles winery Peachy Canyon has released a uniquely exceptional Zinfandel vintage, recently lauded by Wine Enthusiast, Stephen Tanzer, California Grapevine, Connoisseur’s Guide, Vintage, Tasting Panel, and other prestigious critics and publications. Six different red Zinfandels have been awarded 90+ point scores; in many cases, from multiple critics.

A true reflection of Paso Robles terroir, these wines provide an expansive look at the capabilities and quality of small lot — and in many cases, single vineyard — Zinfandel. Senior Winemaker and winery son Josh Beckett notes that although 2011 was a challenging harvest due to weather, the quality of the grapes was high. This is due in part to low yields resulting from an early frost, and a cooler growing season. “A cooler spring and summer in 2011 gave us extended hang time,” says Beckett.

Considered amongst Paso Robles’ most long-standing and celebrated wineries, Peachy Canyon practices traditional, artisanal  winemaking methods. Grapes are harvested and sorted by hand; vineyards are pruned and maintained by hand as well. It is a labor-intensive process that results in high quality-control, leading to outstanding wines.

Boasting a wide range of qualities, from elegant and restrained to fruit-forward, the Peachy Canyon 2011 Zinfandel vintage exhibits the range of microclimates available for Zin production in Paso Robles. Famed wine critic Stephen Tanzer states “I suspect fans of extroverted Rhone wines will enjoy this,” as he describes vineyard designate Mustard Creek Zinfandel. Fan favorite and long time Peachy Canyon flagship Westside Zinfandel is described by Wine Enthusiast critic Steve Heimoff as being especially balanced and “appealing and food friendly,” without overripeness. Each of the six awarded Zinfandels features unique qualities highlighting the expressive and terroir-driven nature of the Zinfandel grape.

“It's always exciting when one receives great reviews and great scores. To have six of your Zinfandels fall into that category in the same vintage is truly a treat,” says founding vintner Doug Beckett.
