Autism Advocacy Group Giving to the Community Asks for Support
PRLog - Nov. 27, 2013 - NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. -- The Friendship Network for Children has joined #GivingTuesday, a first of its kind effort that will harness the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season. Currently, more than 3,000 corporate and nonprofit organizations have committed to participate in the initiative. Visit: http://givingtuesday.org/partner/the-friendship-network-for-children/ to learn more about the partnership.

The Friendship Network for Children is participating by using social media to promote free “Art for Autism: Aware and Share" interactive workshops. "Aware and Share" workshops raise autism awareness and acceptance. Participants watch a heart-felt live presentation created by Student-to-Student Autism Connection members who use the arts to express their personal experiences with autism. Workshop attendees are then guided to use art activities to express their responses to the presentation and are given an opportunity to share their experiences. No special art abilities are needed. Contact info@networkforchildren.org for details.

#GivingTuesday is a movement to celebrate and provide incentives to give. It will culminate with a global day of giving on December 3, 2013. This effort harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

TheStudent-to-Student Autism Connection initiative also includes a fundraising goal of $5,000 to fund this dynamic and innovative advocacy program via direct donations and a vehicle donation program. To support their efforts visit: http://networkforchildren.org/Charitable_Giving.html

"#GivingTuesday is a counter narrative to Black Friday and Cyber Monday because it reminds us that the spirit of the holiday giving season should be about community and not just consumerism,” said Kathy Calvin, CEO of the UN Foundation. “The most meaningful gift we can give our children, loved ones, friends and neighbors is the commitment to work together to help build a better world.” For more details about the #GivingTuesday movement, visit the #GivingTuesday website(http://community.givingtuesday.org), #GivingTuesday (https://twitter.com/GivingTues) and the #GivingTuesday hashtag on Twitter.
