New AdVanced Controller for Modulating Control of Valves and Dampers Reduces Price by 35%
PRLog - Feb. 18, 2014 - BROOKSVILLE, Fla. -- ProMation Engineering, a leader in electric actuators for industrial flow control, has released a series of actuators for applications where modulating (or proportional) control of valves and air dampers is required. ProMation used its in-house engineering resources, the latest electronic technologies and efficient contract manufacturing to produce the AdVanced Controller at prices 35% less than current proportional controllers with additional benefits not commonly found in competitive controllers.

The AdVanced Controller is compatible with common processing parameters such as using 4-20mA input signals; providing position feedback and functioning over a range of voltages. “We not only improved on the essentials needed for industrial flow control, but also listened to our customers and added features they asked for, such as AutoCalibration and onboard diagnostics” said Brian Wheeler, Chief Technical Officer. Controls engineers can easily configure valve and actuator combinations for affordable and effective solutions. The product is especially suitable for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) that regularly balance functionality against costs for efficient operation.

Proportional control is used where a process characteristic needs to be regulated at specific levels to control the process, such as controlling the flow rate of water in a filtering application; the amount of an ingredient being added to a manufacturing process, or the amount of coolant used to control the temperature of a process. The cost of a modulating actuator on a control valve can be substantially more than the valve itself. The new controller succeeds in using the latest technologies to reduce cost while providing features the controls community desires to effectively achieve the parameters needed for a process to run reliably and efficiently.

AutoCalibration saves time during installation as it can reduce the set up time for each actuator by as much as fifteen minutes. The on-board fault diagnostics allow technicians to troubleshoot and quickly fix most problems encountered in the field, avoiding costly down-time. Field personnel can change operational parameters, such as resolution or even supply voltage, if needed, to customize the performance of the actuator and valve for a specific process. The new controller is being offered on the P1 series with 300 in lbs (35Nm) and the P1.A series with 450 in lbs (50Nm) of torque which are typically used to control up to 4 inch valves or up to 18 inch dampers.
