SkyeTek and Motion Computing Release UHF RFID Enabled Tablet

By: PRLog
PRLog - Mar. 11, 2014 - DENVER -- SkyeTek Inc., the leading provider of HF and UHF RFID reader modules, today announced that Motion Computing has adopted SkyeTek’s technology to enable their ruggedized tablets to read and write UHF RFID tags. This new addition allows Motion to optimize new workflows across their targeted verticals such as warehouse inventory management, tracking train cars, and automated retail inventory counting.

“ Motion has been offering a built-in HF RFID reader with the F5 tablet since its original launch in 2007, “ said Patty Tang, Director of Product Marketing for Motion. “The new capability of the UHF RFID reader offers our customers in many verticals new capabilities, particularly in workflows where customers have difficulty getting close to the tag, such as asset management and maintenance on an oil & gas rig, pipeline construction and rail cart transportation management.”

Up until now, the market has been forced to only buy UHF RFID handhelds at high cost because there was not a viable alternative. These handhelds are heavy, use out of date operating systems, and are not user friendly. Motion Computing’s tablets running Windows 7 and 8, combined now with SkyeTek’s UHF RFID technology, offer the market a compelling new product to fit all of their needs, at a much lower cost.

This new product comes in the form of an add-on to Motion Computing’s popular F5 tablet series. The RFID accessory attaches to the bottom of the tablet, then the tablet automatically recognizes the RFID reader is connected and is available for operation. The reader accessories supports all of the major UHF RFID standards, including EPC Global Class 1 Gen 2, ISO 18000-6B/C, and is certified for use in FCC and CE regions.

“We are extremely excited to have Motion Computing as a partner,” said Josh Peifer, President of SkyeTek. “By integrating SkyeTek technology, they have opened up new possibilities for their customers using a technology platform that is as robust and flexible as their tablets.”

The add-on for the F5 tablet uses the popular SkyeModule M9 reader. The M9 provides the wide range of features Motion looked for, small size, power efficiency, and the performance required for the many target applications. The SkyeModule M9 is embedded in many devices and handhelds from companies across the globe, and is available now from SkyeTek directly and through SkyeTek's global reseller network.
