SPBT Changes Name to the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network

PRLog - Jun. 11, 2014 - ROANOKE, Va. -- The Society of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Trainers (SPBT), the nation’s only association dedicated solely to the life science training profession, has changed its name to the Life Sciences Trainers & Educators Network (LTEN).

The new name underscores the growing diversity of members, acknowledges external influences and speaks to a new paradigm of training excellence.  The new name also reinforces the transformation of SPBT into a social organization that harnesses the collective intelligence of its members.

"Our new name and branding represent a deeper commitment to creating a community focused on improving learning through all segments of life sciences, and that will be forward-thinking and solutions-oriented," said John Sjovall, LTEN president, and executive director, sales training & development, Daiichi Sankyo.

LTEN began in 1971 as the National Society of Pharmaceutical Sales Trainers (NSPST). Launched in a meeting of just four training leaders, it began against a backdrop of increased pressures to improve industry standards. Focused solely on heads of training in pharmaceutical companies, the group carried a philosophy that trainers could benefit by sharing ideas between companies. Then in 2000, alongside the biotech boom, the name was changed to the Society of Pharmaceutical and Biotech Trainers (SPBT).

Today, the name LTEN reflects the complete range of life sciences companies inclusive of pharmaceutical and biotech as well as medical device and diagnostics. Of the 1400 LTEN members, 16 percent are from medical device and diagnostic companies, and the numbers continue to steadily grow.

"The future of LTEN will center on expanding our network and providing clarity during this time of rapid change," said Kevin Kruse, LTEN executive director. "Our strength will be in the quality of members and the solutions that they provide, to each other, for solving real-world challenges."

Along with the name change, the company adopted a new corporate identity, including a new logo and visual identity, and a new website that can be found at www.L-TEN.org. The changes are effective immediately, and all future business activity will be undertaken with the new name.
