New Release from Shanti Arts Publishing Features Brilliant Images of Spring Flowers by Stephen Tomasko
PRLog - Aug. 1, 2014 - AKRON, Ohio -- Shanti Arts Publishing in Brunswick, Maine, announces the release of Delira and Excira: Visions of the Flowers of Spring with photographs by Stephen Tomasko.

Stephen Tomasko began his career in the mid-1980s creating diverse bodies of work that cover such topics as this country's gritty steel and automotive industries, county fairs in all their dynamic strangeness, jubilant celebrations taking place on city streets, and the glory and magnificence of flowering gardens. Tying the work together is a vision of carefully seen straight photography, presented full-frame with minimal processing.

Tomasko’s new book focuses on flowers and is filled with stunning images of blossoms—cherry, apple, magnolia, lilac, and more. The book is  a visual display of the spectacular season of spring. Tomasko packs his frames from edge to edge with natural abundance, skillfully recreating the sweet fragrance in the air, the fresh spring light, the delicate touch of petal and pollen, and the emotionally intense experiences with landscape. Time spent with these extraordinary photographs brings forth a feeling of delira and excira, of being delighted and excited at what nature has provided and what can be created through art. These images are truly a vision of spring.

In Delira and Excira: Visions of the Flowers of Spring, Tomasko's glorious photographs are complemented with poems by writer, editor, and teacher Hannah Stephenson, and an essay by James Chatfield, associate professor at Ohio State University with expertise in horticulture, botany, plant physiology, and the environmental, economic, and social benefits of trees. These two contributors provide a scientific and cultural context for Tomasko's stunning photographic offerings.

Stephen Tomasko graduated from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) in 1988 with a B.A. in Art History, and received an M.F.A. from the University of Delaware in 1991. A prolific and seasoned photographer, Tomasko’s work is held in collections nationally and internationally, and has been the subject of gallery exhibitions for over twenty-five years. His images have been shown in venues ranging from Los Angeles, California, to Adelaide, Australia, to Paris, France. In 2013, Tomasko was awarded an Individual Excellence Award with an accompanying grant from the Ohio Arts Council.

Tomasko lives in Akron, Ohio, where he makes art full time and lives with his wife and daughter.
