New Westchester Symphony Orchestra brings together musicians ages 10 to 86 in a concert open to players of all ages and abilities.
PRLog - Oct. 7, 2014 - WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- New Westchester Symphony Orchestra (www.newsymphony.org) has once again created an innovative, orchestral offering for Westchester County music lovers, as well as those new to orchestral music. Playing in a real orchestra is now more accessible than ever, especially for young people.

On Sunday, October 26, 2014, 3PM, New Westchester Symphony Orchestra (NewWSO) presents its inaugural Intergenerational Concert. Students from area middle schools, high schools and colleges join the rest of the orchestra on stage at White Plains High School for a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

The program begins with keyboard virtuoso Anthony Newman performing Bach's Harpsichord Concerto in D Minor. Following the harpsichord, the honors choir of Walter Panas High School will join NewWSO for a heartfelt rendition of Sibelius' Finlandia. The program concludes with Beethoven.

Many children learn their first instruments while in elementary or middle school, usually through school or private lessons. However, few of these children end up playing their instruments beyond high school or college, when the time once devoted to practice and performance often gets traded for a non-musical career and/or a family.

NewWSO turns this paradigm on its head by offering an audition-free ensemble where players of all ages and musical abilities can come together to play the same music that they've heard on the radio and in concert halls their whole lives, all in a supportive and welcoming environment that promotes our motto: "Great Music Played by Anyone, for Everyone."

For this performance, NewWSO stays true to its core values by not requiring the students to audition, unlike other area youth orchestras. The goal of the Intergenerational Concert is to give anyone, at any age, an opportunity to play well-known orchestral repertoire. And many people would agree that there is perhaps no single orchestral piece better known than Beethoven's Symphony No. 5.

NewWSO recently completed a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund this entire concert, raising above and beyond their initial fundraising goal. View the Kickstarter video below to see why so many people pitched in to help bring this concert to life: http://youtu.be/XfDWL52kafs

Founded in November 2011, NewWSO’s membership has grown from an initial group of 15 players to over 75 players almost three years later. Conductor and co-founder Benjamin Niemczyk states, “Judging by our growth, we are definitely onto something. Amateur instrumentalists have a burning desire to play significant orchestral music in a non-competitive community setting, and NewWSO fulfills that desire in a joyful way.”
