Celebrities, Survivors, Activists To Attend Los Angeles Premiere
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month - Funds Raised At Premiere Go To PAVE Non-Profit
LOS ANGELES - March 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Filmmakers, artists, survivors, and experts have joined forces with documentary-maker and child abuse survivor Johnna Janis for the premiere of "Invisible Scars".
"Invisible Scars", an award winning documentary by Johnna Janis, who bravely confronts her experience of childhood sexual abuse at the hands of her father, aims to strike down the shame and guilt often felt by victims of sexual abuse and be a voice for survivors so they can begin their own healing journey.
The conversation around child sexual abuse is gaining momentum with the recent Academy Award win for Best Picture: Spotlight, the President Obama and Vice President Biden spearheaded movement: 'It's On Us' and Child Abuse Awareness Month in April.
"As a survivor of child sexual abuse, I spent many years withdrawn, struggling with the psychological repercussions of my abuse and ultimately, was a prisoner of my own silence," said Johnna Janis. "That was until one woman shared her personal story with me and urged me to face the trauma from my childhood. 'Invisible Scars' is the story of my healing journey," she said.
Proceeds benefit PAVE (Promoting Awareness, Victim Empowerment), a national nonprofit that is leading the national movement of shattering the silence of sexual violence.
