L2Tek to represent NGCodec in selling FPGA IP core for H.265/HEVC video encoder

By: PRLog
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - March 29, 2016 - PRLog -- L2Tek, a manufacturers' representative and distributor of components and sub-assemblies for professional video and high-speed communications systems, has signed a deal to represent NGCodec in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia. NGCodec is a Silicon Valley start-up developing video codec FPGA IP cores. The addition of this franchise strengthens L2Tek's one-stop-shop where encoding, decoding and transport FPGA solutions are all offered.

The deal with L2Tek particularly focuses on selling NGCodec's H.265 video encoder designs. H.265, also called High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), is already an important tool used in the delivery of 4K content to ultra HD displays and streaming high-quality video in congested network environments.

Supporting High Dynamic Range (HDR) content, NGCodec's H.265 solution delivers point-to-point 4K video at an unprecedented delay of less than one video frame. Besides very low latency, the IP core also provides a compact FPGA footprint and requires significantly lower power than software encoders.

L2Tek director, Mark Scott-South, comments: "By partnering with NGCodec, we improve our FPGA solutions to make it easier for customers to bring their products to market. Professional broadcast engineers can now employ an H.265 encoding solution scalable to 4K video with exceptionally low latency and high compression efficiency together with the flexibility of FPGA design."

Oliver Gunasekara, CEO and Co-founder of NGCodec, says: "L2Tek has established itself as one of Europe's leading representatives for professional video applications. We are delighted that the company has added NGCodec's cutting edge H.265/HEVC video encoder to their portfolio of complementary semiconductor components and systems."

NGCodec will demonstrate its H.265 video encoding technology in booth #SU9615SUL at the 2016 NAB Show held in Las Vegas between April 16 - 21.

Note to editors:

·      H.265 and HEVC are different names for the same video compression codec standard as defined by the Moving Picture Experts Group (using the term H.265) and the Video Coding Experts Group (using HEVC). With its greater efficiency, H.265 uses less data than H.264 to compress online video without degrading its quality. Greater efficiency means video can be shown at the same quality while consuming less bandwidth, or bandwidth can be maintained to achieve greater quality.

·      Visitors can contact L2Tek to arrange a VIP demonstration of NGCodec's H.265 video encoder IP at NAB or to request an evaluation board.
