Bullying Among Tweens and Teens is at an All-Time High, but the Same Tools that Hurt, also Help

Kids connect and shine on storybooth, featuring authentic stories and real conversations from both sides of bullying
MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Dec. 9, 2016 - PRLog -- Created Entertainment today announced that storybooth, its animated storytelling platform, is generating more than 1,000,000 views per week across the unscripted, youth-voiced animations that ultimately present the personal stories that are defining today's youth.

Not surprisingly, many of the most highly engaged animated stories are about bullying and cyber-bullying. And, with over 16,000 stories submitted for consideration through storybooth's mobile app and website recording studios since the multi-channel video platform's launch in May 2016, it is clear that bullying is a hugely pervasive and important topic to 12-25 year olds across the world.

Co-founder Marcy Sinel commented, "The stories that these young people have lived, and tell, are remarkable; heartfelt, humorous and heartbreaking. With the majority of today's teens having access to a mobile device, bullying is an important and growing issue, but typically we see adults talking about it, or news media reporting on it. We believe that kids want and need to talk about it in and amongst themselves, inside the environments they are most comfortable with – digital – and we're seeing amazing things happen in the connections and conversations that flow out of these shared stories."

Out of the more than 40 storybooth stories produced and posted to date, six have bullying at their center. One of the most recent stories, told by a 14-year-old, is particularly popular because it is actually told by the bully, not the bullied. These six stories, to date, have generated nearly 3,000,000 views and over 7,000 comments and continue to grow.

Sinel added, "Watching these young viewers connect with and support each other, and share their own stories in the conversations evolving underneath these videos is incredible. They are literally coming to each other's rescue. It's amazing and encouraging, and we rarely see the news covering this side of the story – young people aren't just hurting each other, they are helping each other too."

storybooth leverages a branded YouTube channel, website and mobile app to engage with its quickly scaling audience on multiple levels. A large and growing organic fan base has formed, and this community is helping to fuel the growth in views, engagement and story submissions that the platform is experiencing.

"It's humbling that kids are sharing such personal accounts of their lives with us, but even more incredible is their very compassionate and inclusive behavior toward each other," Sinel said. "We are seeing that it is far less about the celebrity of being animated and much more about actually impacting other kids in a positive way. One of the most consistent comments we see under each video – across the tens of thousands we get – is 'me too.' That is such a validation on multiple levels to us, to our storytellers and to the millions of viewers we continue to attract. Seeing these young generations being so consistently empathetic, curious, protective, resilient and supportive is something that surprises us every day. Again, that's likely because we so seldom hear about how much kids help and lean on each other when bullying is involved – but with storybooth it is all right there to see."

storybooth has become an outlet for young people to express themselves creatively, solve problems and support each other, and ultimately to realize that they are not alone in the experiences they accumulate as they go. Because the platform is so powerful and entertaining, dozens of noted YouTube Creators have and are collaborating on stories and co-distributing them to their audiences, introducing this new format and the storybooth brand to their fans.
