BOYDTON, Va. - Sept. 1, 2018 - PRLog -- The Virginia-based social media savvy disaster response organization Humanity Road is pleased to announce their acceptance as a National Member of National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (National VOAD).

"Accurate and timely information is critical to any disaster response and recovery.  We welcome Humanity Road as a National VOAD  member," said President and CEO of National VOAD, Gregory Forrester.  "We are thrilled that they are joining our team.  Humanity Road's expertise in communications and social media is critical to our mission of providing assistance to survivors."

National VOAD is the national coordinating body for community and faith-based disaster response organizations.  National VOAD Members are a distinctive group of community-based, faith-based and other nonprofit and nongovernmental organizations that have service-oriented missions and utilize volunteers in their operations.

"It is an honor for Humanity Road to become a National VOAD Member," said Allyson Zoby Kuriger, Emergency Management Coordinator for Humanity Road, and Vice President of the Virginia VOAD.  "Being a National Member will provide new opportunities for our organization to enhance our 4C's- cooperation, communication, coordination and collaboration with our partners.  The 4c's are the core principles that all VOAD members utilize to build resilient communities and provide assistance before, during and after a disaster strikes."

"Technologies that enable communications, decision-making, and situational awareness are now essential to effective emergency management," states FEMA on their Tech Sector announcement in 2015.  Humanity Road was selected with  Microsoft, Intel and Google to join FEMA's Tech Sector group.

Humanity Road leverages technology and digital volunteers who volunteer from home to monitor and assist the public.  Humanity Road synthesizes social media data into situational reports that provide early insights to disaster impacts.
