Explore the Sunrise Side and Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Michigan State Parks
LANSING, Mich. - June 12, 2019 - PRLog -- Cyclists of all levels will enjoy an active vacation on the 2019 Michigander Bicycle Tour as it explores the spectacular Lake Huron coastline and Huron Manistee National Forest from July 13-18.

Recognized by Bicycling Magazine as one of the top ten multi-day rides in America, the classic touring vacation offers a two or six-day option. The two-day Michigander is a casual, easy ride of about 30 miles each day while the six-day tour moves upwards of 45-55 miles a day. The Michigander is hosted by the Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance and includes camping, SAG (support and gear) stops, medical support and daily breakfast and dinner buffets.

Michigander participants will enjoy an all-new route showcasing the Iron Belle Trail. When complete, the Iron Belle Trail will stretch from the far western tip of the Upper Peninsula in Ironwood to Belle Isle in Detroit. Riders will enjoy portions of the Iron Belle along Lake Huron and as they head west to Higgins Lake. The tour features all paved trails or paved roads as riders continue south on the popular Fred Meijer White Pine Trail and back east on the Pere Marquette State Trail.

The 28th Annual Michigander will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Michigan State Parks System with stays, stops and campfires at Tawas State Park, Rifle River Recreation Area, Higgins Lake State Park and Houghton Lake State Park. Participants will enjoy small-town hospitality as the tour travels through the towns of Tawas City, Oscoda, Hale, Lupton, Rose City, Roscommon, Higgins Lake, Lake City, Cadillac, Tustin, Reed City and Evart.

New this year, the Michigander will journey with a travelling chef and riders will continue to enjoy our travelling barista and masseuse. Everyone will love the less populated "Sunrise Side" of Michigan, known for its sandy beaches, clear lakes, winding rivers and vast tracks of forest. Participants will experience the natural and historic beauty of the area with visits to the River Road Scenic Byway, Lumberman's Monument, Canoer's Memorial, Iargo Springs, Tawas Point Lighthouse, Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center, Pine River Museum and tubing on the Au Sable River.
