IWSR's Top 5 US Beverage Trends for 2020 - Technology

The size of the online alcoholic drinks market is set to explode alongside the overall growth in e-commerce. US volume growth of online beverage alcohol is forecasted to grow by 37.1% year-over-year through 2024, according to the IWSR's 2019 Global E-commerce Study. Concurrently, consumers in the US are demanding convenience during the shopping experience. According to the study, the biggest reasons for a consumer choosing a favorite online alcohol retailer are an 'easy to use the website' followed by 'reliability' and 'quality products'. Ongoing state lawsuits regarding restriction on alcohol shipping laws are poised to loosen, offering more options for consumers.

Hard seltzer and other "seltzer-like" products command a market share of 2.6% of all beverage alcohol in the US, up from only 0.85% a year ago. IWSR also estimates that hard seltzer e-commerce sales will increase from a current share of 0.8% to nearly 2% by 2023 as more consumers realize they can purchase these products online.
