Since its opening in June 2022, the market has received significant support from residents and local businesses with at least 15-20 vendors selling their specialty wares weekly.

The farmer’s market was launched to provide the residents of Mt. Pleasant with a weekly event that helps support church missions and local businesses while strengthening community ties. It was also initiated to raise funds for the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department.
Held at the “little Mt. Pleasant Square” located across the street from the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist church every Thursday, patrons are treated to a wide range of choice products including Mt. Pleasant resident Donald Coopwood’s organic shelled and bagged black-eyed peas and okra. Other area farmers, bakers, businesses, and residents offer fresh produce and various homemade products ranging from pies, bread, pickles, jams, jellies, and monkey butter. Novelty items such as cornhole games and hand-crafted products are also available.
According to one of the event organizers, “Despite the dry summer heat, everyone is having fun and vendors are selling out at a steady rate; many expressing that they do better at this farmer’s market than at larger farmer’s market venues. I haven’t heard anything but good from the community since we started this.”
Interested vendors may rent a booth for only $10 weekly, which is donated to the Mt. Pleasant MS volunteer Fire Department. There are no contracts or long-term commitments, so vendors have the freedom to stop selling at any time. Non-vendors and visitors are welcome to place their donations to the fire department at the market donation booth.
The Mt. Pleasant Farmer’s Market is still open for vendor rentals and will continue to serve customers every Thursday from 4 pm-8 pm throughout the fall.
According to a satisfied customer, “They sell out fast at the Mt. Pleasant Farmer’s Market! Sometimes, you have to place your order in advance for homemade pies, and specialty baked goods like banana nut and zucchini bread.”
