CVRD Concludes 2004 Iron Ore Price Negotiation with Japan
Rio de Janeiro, January 14, 2004 Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD), the worlds largest iron ore producer, and Nippon Steel, a leading Japanese steelmaker, have settled today iron ore prices for 2004 Japanese fiscal year (from April 2004 to March 2005).
The new price for the Southern System sinter feed (SSF), FOB Tubarão, Brazil, of US 32.79 cents per Long Ton Fe unit, corresponds to a 18.62% increase over the 2003 price and the new price for the Carajás fines (SFCJ) FOB Ponta da Madeira, Brazil, of US 33.29 cents per Long Ton Fe unit, corresponds to a 18.30% increase over the 2003 price.
Such settlement was achieved between the two companies after several rounds of negotiation that started in December 2003.
