Elsie S. Mainali: Empowering Health Care Through Leadership and Teamwork

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / June 24, 2025 / The health care industry is ever-changing, driven by technological advancements, evolving patient needs and the constant pursuit of better outcomes. As professionals in this field adapt to the shifts, leadership and collaboration become key to improving patient care and building cohesive teams. Elsie S. Mainali, MD, PhD, brings over 27 years of experience in neonatology and a growing focus on coaching health care professionals to excel in clinical practice and leadership.

Seizing Opportunities:A Journey Rooted in Perseverance

Dr. Mainali's career embodies the power of seizing opportunities. Originally from Indonesia, she credits much of her success to the opportunities provided by her adopted country, the United States.

"Though it may not always be easy, surviving many hurdles and tribulations, America presented opportunities for anyone who is assertive and resilient in seizing the unique and valuable openings," she says. Her dedication to training and perseverance allowed her to build a successful career while overcoming obstacles.

Dr. Mainali earned a Doctor of Medicine from Manila Central University in 1984 and a Doctor of Philosophy in medical sciences with a focus on immunology from Texas A&M University in 1992. Deeply committed to learning, she also obtained certifications in group coaching from the American Academy of Medical Colleges.

To stay ahead in a rapidly changing field, Dr. Mainali regularly attends webinars and keeps up on the latest developments. "One can never truly catch up with everything, as there's always something new to learn every day," she notes.

The Importance of Teamwork in Health Care

At the start of her neonatology career, Dr. Mainali worked as an academic clinical scientist at Virginia Commonwealth University. In 2007, she transitioned into management at a large national physician group organization, where she worked to improve health care accessibility for infants. In 2015, she founded her own company, myNICUbaby, which allowed her to make a deeper impact in her field.

Dr. Mainali is currently focused on group coaching, helping medical teams collaborate to enhance patient safety and improve outcomes. She emphasizes the importance of teamwork and synergy in health care: "I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my students, and I learn so much from them as well."

Dr. Mainali is proud of her ability to modify group behaviors and cultures to create cohesive, high-performing teams that deliver exceptional patient care.

Encouraging Others: Giving Back Through Coaching and Community

Dr. Mainali's passion for coaching extends beyond her work with medical teams. She is starting a nonprofit organization to support young people in Nepal by providing them with training and educational opportunities. Her inspiration for the nonprofit came from a trip to Nepal, where she observed the challenges younger generations face due to a lack of opportunities.

In addition, Dr. Mainali cofounded a monthly webinar-coaching website, the first in the field, aimed at mother-baby medical providers in Indonesia, delivered in Bahasa Indonesia, the country's native language. "Indonesia is a very large archipelago country with 17,000 islands," she says. "There is a great need for a forum focused on newborn care in places where the infant mortality rate is still very high." The website, which she leads with Dr. Wisnu Hendrarto, provides affordable and much-needed education for health professionals in the region.

Dr. Mainali credits her fulfillment to the people she has met throughout her career. "For women in the profession, be yourself and never be intimidated because you are the only woman there," she advises. "If you put your heart and mind into what you are doing, make it your guiding light, and you will be successful."

Looking Forward: Empowering Future Generations

As Dr. Mainali's career continues to evolve, she remains committed to her patients, her students and her mission of improving health care outcomes. Her desire to inspire collaboration and provide education will continue to shape her efforts, and she plans to expand her coaching initiatives while inspiring the next generation of health care providers.
