Tema Surpasses $1bn AUM Two Years After Launch, Strengthens Team With Key Growth Hires

Tema ETFs (“Tema”), the New York-based provider of innovative exchange traded funds (ETFs), has surpassed $1 billion in assets under management (AUM) in just two years since launch, achieved with less than $5m of initial seed AUM. Tema also announces the hiring of Devan O’Dowd as Head of Distribution and Ceri Llewelyn as Director of Marketing.

Three highlights to note:

  1. Institutional Adoption: Tema estimates that over 90% of current AUM originates from Registered Investment Advisors (RIA), Institutional Investors, Wirehouses, Family Offices, reflective of Tema’s institutional-grade, fiduciary focused innovative ETF product offering.1
  2. 2025 Momentum: Tema’s two most recent launches, the Tema S&P 500 Historical Weight ETF Strategy ($DSPY) and the Tema Electrification ETF ($VOLT), have together raised over $700m AUM in less than eight months of 2025 with $4m of combined initial seed AUM.1
  3. Broad Growth: Five out of six Tema funds currently hold over $60m AUM each, while three funds hold over $100m AUM each, illustrative of broad investor demand across the platform.1

“This early milestone would not have been possible without Tema’s team, backers and innovative execution. I am personally most impressed by the performance of most Tema funds as corroborated by their interim Morningstar rankings. As we now look to accelerate growth and expand our innovative solutions, I believe Devan and Ceri’s prior growth experience strengthen Tema for this growth phase,” said Maurits Pot, Founder and CEO of Tema ETFs.

To help drive the next phase of growth, Tema is strengthening its leadership team with two key appointments that bring growth experience in distribution and marketing.

Devan O'Dowd joins Tema from Global X ETFs, where he served as Regional Director and Vice President of Distribution, responsible for distribution efforts on the West Coast since 2016. Mr. O'Dowd began his career as part of the Advisor Sales Team in the Morningstar Development Program, the Chicago-based investment research firm and previously worked for Cedar Capital, an early leader in the ETF strategist space. He received his BA in Political Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign, with additional studies in Environmental Economics and Law.

Ceri Llewelyn joins Tema from Direxion ETFs, where he served as Senior Vice President, Web Strategy & Innovation. Prior to Direxion, Mr. Llewelyn led the Digital Transformation Program at State Street Global Advisors (now State Street Investment Management). He brings deep expertise in building and transforming digital ecosystems, having begun his career on the agency side supporting prominent companies across a range of industries. He holds a Master of Business from Cardiff Metropolitan University.
