The beginning of 2023 saw an unprecedented increase in the gift/estate and generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax exemption limit, rising from $12,060,000 to $12,920,000. The current exemption amounts will be reduced by 50% as of January 1, 2026, with some lawmakers pushing for that to occur earlier.
