Mission Connection Enhances Access to CT-R Therapy for At-Risk Communities

With the prevalence of mental health issues increasing throughout the world, treatment centers like Mission Connection have begun adopting novel treatments, such as CT-R, to promote long-term mental wellness.

-- Over 5.9 million people worldwide participated in Mental Health America’s 2024 National Prevention and Screening Program, with 78% of American respondents scoring positive for moderate to severe symptoms of a mental health condition—this data was published by Mental Health America in acknowledgement of Mental Health Awareness Month, corroborating a nationwide decline in mental health that continues well into 2025.

Although Mental Health Awareness Month has concluded, treatment centers such as Mission Connection continue to work towards educating the public on the resources available to those struggling with mental disorders, introducing novel treatments such as recovery-oriented cognitive behavioral therapy (CT-R) and how it can improve treatment outcomes for those with conditions such as anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.

Mental and behavioral health disorders are on the rise in America, according to a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Research has shown that the well-being of Americans has declined, while feelings of sadness and hopelessness have increased among adolescents within the past decade. This is particularly true among individuals in the LGBTQ+ population, who are more than twice as likely to have a mental health disorder in their lifetime compared to heterosexual and cisgender men and women.

However, the appropriate interventions can successfully treat mental health conditions. With Pride Month now commencing, mental health centers like Mission Connection have redoubled their efforts to provide accessible mental healthcare services to members of the LGTBQ+ community. These services include treatments like CT-R, an adaptive and strength-based approach designed to promote recovery and resilience.

As Mission Connection explains, CT-R is an extension of traditional cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) that emphasizes recovery beyond symptom relief. Developed by the Beck Institute, this novel, multidisciplinary framework focuses on helping patients form meaningful aspirations and build connections with others, providing them with the toolkit to maintain their mental health outside of treatment. One pilot study suggested that CT-R is particularly effective with individuals who have shown treatment resistance to medication or therapy, expanding the possibilities for those who struggle with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma.

Alongside CT-R and integrative healthcare, Mission Connection continues to offer traditional evidence-based therapies as part of its intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. These can be accessed in person, but patients have the option to receive care online through the treatment center’s telehealth platform.
