True Love Made By a Stairlift?

Is it at all possible can it really lead to true love? it certainly has helped love blossom between a couple in a Residential Care Home in Exeter

PR Log - May 08, 2013 - EXETER, U.K. -- A two storey residential home in Exeter has experienced the blossoming of true love for two of its elderly residents. Edwina Burrows and Stuart Uglow met at Ashdown Residential home based in Exeter a few years ago and fell in love. The problem is they live on separate floors and only meet for breakfast and dinner.

When it came to the evening time they both had to go their separate ways. Edwina leaving Stuart at the bottom of the stairs to go to her first floor room and Stuart would return to his on the ground floor.

This all changed when the home owners Dave and Cathy Rogers decided to have a stairlift installed by Acorn.

Joint owner of Ashdown Mr Rogers explains.

“Ever since the stair lift has been fitted it has been much easier for Stuart to visit Edwina when he wants”

“Stuarts now thinking of moving permanently upstairs since it is no problem now for him to go up and down for his meals.”

“Ashdown has six rooms on the 1st floor and six on the ground. Getting around was always and issue residents would always need assistance from the staff it has definitely made the place more sociable”

“We also had a young man here receiving respite care because his 85 year old mother was unable to look after him. He had suffered a broken ankle and love the fact we had a stair lift. It enabled him to get around and his mother was able to visit him using the lift”

“If Edwina and Stuart want to be closer we have a large spare room. In the past it was one big room with a partition wall between it. We could if they wanted to be closer together remove the partition giving them more space”

In a busy residential home reducing the amount of tasks staff must carry out is paramount. The straight stair lift fitted by Acorn has been critical to its success. The eleven staff no longer has to help and support elderly residents up and down the staircase.

He added “Everyone found it quite funny when I started using when I broke my toe”

Mr Rogers said a quite a lot of visitors with mobility issues had remarked that they had found it difficult getting up and down the staircase at the Teignmouth home.
