Dr. Tyner's new book has a powerful message that inspires youth to make a difference. Justice Makes a Difference should be in every gift shop, airport and everywhere books are sold around the world. "Youth are looking for guidance and answers to a chaotic world they are experiencing today," says Monique.
Dr. Artika Tyner is a civil rights attorney, educator, highly sought-after speaker, advocate for justice and an award-winning author. She currently serves as the Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of St. Thomas.
Tyner received her B.A. from Hamline University (Major: English; Certificate: Conflict Studies). Due to her passion for advocating for social justice and educational policy reform, she decided to pursue graduate studies at the University of St. Thomas. She began her journey with law school since she recognized that the law is a language of power and therefore she sought to become well versed in the law.
Subsequently, Tyner earned a Master of Public Policy and Leadership in order to gain tools for effecting social change through policy reform efforts. Later, inspired by the legacy of W.E.B. Dubois, she obtained a Doctorate in Leadership. Her doctoral studies provided her with key tools for serving in her community and promoting social justice.
Dr. Tyner recently released a children's book, Justice Makes a Difference. The main character in the book, Justice, was inspired by Dr. Tyner's childhood. The story reflects Dr. Tyner's relationship as a young girl with her mother and grandmother - two strong, black women who taught little Miss Freedom Fighter Esquire to dream big and to not let anyone tell you "you can't".
What makes this book special is that Dr. Tyner co-authored the book with her mother, Jacklyn Milton, a K-12 educator, who understands the leadership and commitment that must be made to educate young people today. "The book itself has superpowers, in that it reflects the love and power my mother and grandmother instilled in me, that shaped who I am today," comments Dr. Tyner.
Justice Makes a Difference is the first in a series of children's books and related education tools and resources, which will be available to consumers soon. Justice will take you on a super hero's adventure around the world - the world that Dr. Tyner figuratively traveled through via books read to her as a child by her mother and grandmother.
