Kimball Electronics Achieves Important Medical Certification; Registration to ISO 13485 Enhances Business Opportunities

Kimball Electronics Group, Inc., a subsidiary of Kimball International, Inc. (NASDAQ: KBALB), announced today that another of the Company’s production facilities has achieved a major certification to manufacture medical electronics components and equipment. The ISO 13485 certification was awarded to the company’s Kimball Electronics- Jasper (Indiana) facility. Kimball Electronics Group (KEG) is a global contract electronic manufacturing services (EMS) company that specializes in durable electronics with applications in the medical, automotive, industrial controls, and public safety industries.

To help KEG meet the growing demand for medical-related products, Kimball Electronics-Jasper (KE-J) recently completed an important and necessary step: official registration of its quality management system to the globally-recognized ISO 13485 standards, meeting requirements for the manufacture of medical devices.

Registration to ISO 13485 is commonly used as the basis for meeting other regulatory requirements, such as U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) compliance.

The standard known as ISO 13485 – “Medical devices – Quality management systems – Requirements for regulatory purposes” has become the global standard for those involved in the manufacture of medical devices.

Kimball’s other locations registered with ISO 13485 certification are in Thailand, Wales (U.K.), Tampa (Florida), and Fremont (California). “This certification will give our medical customers peace of mind that we will serve them well,” stated Kevin Stokes, General Manager, Kimball Electronics-Jasper. “It also shows our ongoing commitment to quality and providing business growth opportunities within the Jasper facility,” added Stokes.

Kimball Electronics-Jasper was able to benefit from the collective knowledge of its sister locations that have ISO 13485 certification, building upon existing strong quality management systems to address the processes and procedures related to medical device requirements. Among the types of products Kimball manufactures for the medical market are diagnostic imaging equipment, defibrillators, hematology, urinalysis, ultrasound and laboratory equipment, as well as vital signs, glucose and respiration monitors.

Electronics for the medical industry represents some of the greatest growth potential among EMS markets.
