The initiative is designed to raise awareness of the challenges children face in the wake of bullying and harassment both online and in-person. Collectively, K12-powered schools will raise funds to promote bullying’s harmful effects and shine a light on how students, schools, and communities can work together to combat bullying.

“Now, more than ever, this threat demands immediate attention and collaborative effort between schools and parents nationwide,” said Pikes Peak Online School and Colorado Preparatory Academy’s Head of School, Nicole Tiley. “School leaders and parents are the strongest allies for preventing bullying of all kinds and by working together, we can send a powerful message that bullying of any kind will not be tolerated.”

For many families, switching to an online learning environment offered an immediate solution for their child to learn in a safe and secure bullying-free environment. In fact, 44% of families enrolled with K12-powered online schools said they enrolled because of safety and/or mental health concerns their child faced at their previous school.

“While we always aim to provide a safe and secure environment for our students, these children are not immune to the world of cyberbullying outside of our virtual schools,” said Teri Cady, executive director of Destinations Career Academy of Colorado. “Education is a shared responsibility, and both parents and schools must educate themselves about the various social media platforms and apps their students use. Understanding the digital landscape is key to identifying potential dangers and responding effectively.”

The resources and K12-powered programs used by these three Colorado online public schools, teach students, parents, and staff about the consequences of bullying, the importance of empathy and respect online, and strategies for approaching and reporting incidents.

The Move-A-Thon events will promote kindness through exercise and fundraising efforts. The collaboration is designed to encourage healthy conversations on bullying and cyberbullying and the importance of safe learning environments. To learn more visit: www.givesignup.org/k12moveathon.
