Pulaski County is All In on Tutoring with High Dosage Virtual Solution

School district quickly puts state funds to work in support of academic improvement.

Pulaski County Public Schools (PCPS) is among the first school districts in Virginia to deliver on Governor Youngkin’s call to action in support of high dosage tutoring for students, with the implementation of Stride Tutoring this fall.

Earlier this year, Governor Youngkin signed HB 6001/SB 6001, which included a nearly immediate investment of $418.3 million for public education. The All In Virginia funding includes support for the implementation of the Virginia Literacy Act to address learning loss and to combat chronic absenteeism statewide. To meet the Governor’s challenge to address the learning loss left in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Pulaski County Public Schools has committed to invest 70% of its All In Virginia funds in tutoring, with a focus on grades 3-8. PCPS has utilized Stride Tutoring to deliver more than 200 daily tutoring sessions through the end of December term.

“The All In Virginia funding has presented us with an exciting opportunity to serve our students with a new tool from a trusted partner,” said Robert F. Graham, Superintendent of Pulaski County Public Schools. “Stride Tutoring has helped us to put into immediate action much-needed additional tutoring capacity for our students, enabling us to deliver on our commitment to their continued success.”

Backed by Stride’s more than two decades of experience in education delivery, Stride Tutoring offers high-dosage online tutoring support to school districts and directly to families, connecting students with experienced teachers. Stride’s tutors are equipped with a comprehensive library of curriculum and content that aligns to state standards across all subjects and grade levels.

Stride’s personalized tutoring helps learners maintain their academic pace, catch up, or even surge ahead as tutors customize lesson plans to each student’s specific learning style, strengths, and interests. Tutoring sessions align with what students are learning in the classroom, and Stride Tutoring only works with state-certified teachers as tutors.

Earlier this year, a third-party evaluation validated that Stride Tutoring meets the standards of evidence in Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) aligning with Level IV (“Demonstrates a Rationale”). This certification shows that a third-party evaluation has validated that Stride Tutoring "demonstrates a rationale" for being evidence-based according to ESSA Level IV.

For schools and districts, Stride Tutoring offers a variety of scalable solutions for high-dosage tutoring, including the ability to schedule small group sessions during the school day and providing detailed student- and school-level reports.
