“Resolving unmet healthcare needs and enhancing access to vital treatment and care are strategic imperatives, especially in underserved communities where financial strain and other barriers result in complex conditions that tend to worsen over time,” says Oldham. “Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right, and TLI is dedicated to driving innovation to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to the care they need. By building data and information solutions that empower better care delivery, TLI is fulfilling its mission to help chronic disease communities.”
Oldham also expresses his confidence in the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data in healthcare, describing how these technologies can empower patient engagement, optimize provider efficiency and address social determinants of health. He also highlights the importance of telemedicine and patient portals in making healthcare more accessible and convenient for patients.
“I am extremely optimistic about the future of healthcare and growing awareness of the importance of nutrition, activity and mental health,” he shares. “But there is an urgent need for a more equitable healthcare system, and this is what reinforces TLI's commitment to driving positive change in the industry.”
Among its initiatives, TLI focuses on several projects, including:
Limb Loss and Preservation Registry (LLPR), launched in partnership with the Mayo Clinic and National Institutes of Health (NIH), LLPR is the only Registry in the US to advance better patient outcomes for the over 5 million Americans living with acquired limb loss and congenital limb difference.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration Patient Portal, under development with the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF), will provide links to information and resources for patients and families living with macular degeneration and collect patient outcomes data which can be used for research in the future.
Autism Knowledge Gateway, a research gateway where research articles can be accessed through a single library and healthcare providers can collaborate and confidentially discuss treatment plans.
