Andersen and The University of San Francisco Launch Groundbreaking Generative AI Tax Research Training Program

Corporate-academic partnership expands with new program focused on integrating and leveraging AI effectively and responsibly

Andersen – the leader in tax, valuation, financial advisory, and related consulting services – and the University of San Francisco’s School of Law (USF Law) today announced a pioneering initiative to integrate Generative AI (GenAI) into professional tax practice.

The Generative AI Tax Research Training Program combines the law school’s nationally recognized AI curriculum with specialized tax research training, setting a new standard for how accounting and legal professionals can harness AI while maintaining the highest ethical standards. The program will equip Andersen’s tax professionals with the skills to apply AI tools responsibly in their daily work—enhancing research efficiency, accuracy, and professional judgment without compromising quality or compliance.

Addressing a Critical Industry Need

As GenAI rapidly transforms professional services, firms face the challenge of adopting powerful new tools while ensuring their use aligns with regulatory requirements and professional standards. The new program addresses this gap by providing structured, ethics-focused training specifically designed for tax research and analysis.

"AI is an incredibly transformative force in our world today," said Mark Vorsatz, global chairman and CEO of Andersen. "It's critical that our people are prepared not only to leverage AI to enhance productivity and client service, but to do so in a manner that maintains professional standards and quality control. USF is on the leading edge of embedding this kind of training and mindset into its curriculum, and we're honored that our employees will be part of this program focused on GenAI tax research."

Building on Innovation

The partnership leverages USF Law's groundbreaking approach to AI education. Earlier this year, USF Law became the first school in the country to integrate GenAI directly into its core curriculum—not as a standalone elective, but as an essential component woven throughout the program.

"Our ongoing collaboration with Andersen is rooted in our shared commitment to innovation, integrity, and excellence," said Johanna Kalb, dean of the USF School of Law. "This new program represents another significant milestone in our partnership as we prepare professionals for the challenges of a tech-driven world by enabling them to build the skills—and judgment—they'll need to lead within the rapidly changing professional services landscape."

The initiative also supports USF's Center for Law, Tech and Social Good in its mission to pioneer the integration of legal education with emerging technologies to advance social responsibility.

“This collaboration with Andersen represents an important step forward in the University of San Francisco's strategic initiative to advance Generative AI in education and professional formation,” said Salvador D. Aceves, president of the University of San Francisco. "Andersen will define the standards for responsible and effective AI usage in tax practice, and we're grateful for the opportunity to support their leadership."

Program Details

The inaugural cohort of approximately 60 Andersen professionals will begin training in late 2025. Participants will learn to:

  • Evaluate and select appropriate GenAI tools for tax research applications
  • Integrate AI responsibly into daily workflows
  • Maintain professional judgment and quality control when using AI-assisted research
  • Navigate ethical considerations and compliance requirements

Following the pilot program, the training will be scaled across Andersen's tax practice and made available to employees at no cost as a professional development benefit.
