According to Ivan, Cotta is proof that one well-made ingredient can lead an entire menu and start a culinary movement. He shared that the idea behind Cotta’s founding was purely driven by passion and that there wasn’t a lot of strategic thought behind it. He only set out to explore his love for cooking and to get himself moving during a low time during the pandemic. This led to transforming traditional Italian ricotta into a local creation that fits right into Malaysia’s vibrant food culture. Its unique dining concept has maintained a 4.9-star rating.

“I founded Cotta after a particularly devastating career hit. My main objective with Cotta was to rebuild my career through my passion. At the time, the goal was to build a small but heartfelt menu made with love and passion, and that’s how our first three sandwiches came about. Now, we have grown into a recognized culinary destination for locals and international travelers and I couldn’t be prouder.”

Ivan also shared that the new era of food discovery travel has helped Cotta’s ricotta-focused dining stand out as one of Kuala Lumpur’s emerging culinary destinations. “Travelers are now choosing destinations through food,” he said. “People want handmade ingredients, authentic flavors, and welcoming spaces.
