Marie-Josee updated her services following recommendations by the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM). The IAIM has stated that baby massage has multiple benefits for both babies and their mothers, not least of which is the increased production of oxytocin, the love hormone. Oxytocin helps build trust between two people while also reducing feelings of pain. This may play a significant role for new mothers currently suffering from post-partum depression.
Marie-Josee teaches moms how to gently massage their babies, especially if they have a colicky infant. She explains that regular massage may aid digestion and relieve colic, constipation, and wind. This, in turn, helps babies sleep more deeply and for longer. For first-time mothers, she recommends booking an appointment with her so she can do an evaluation, work on the baby and teach parents some techniques specific to their baby to do at home.
Baby massage may also offer therapeutic benefits for infants with medical conditions, including jaundice, tongue tie, torticollis, Bell’s Palsy, flat head and asthma. Marie-Josee tailors her massages to suit the baby’s unique needs and modifies these treatments as the baby grows.
As part of the update, mothers can learn how to massage their babies online. Marie-Josee guides new moms through Zoom or WhatsApp during the entire process and answers any questions they may have. This is recommended for moms with newborn, or who can’t physically visit the clinic or who are always on the go.
Marie-Josee also offers postpartum massages to help new moms recover faster from the physical stresses of childbirth. Other services include lymphatic induction massage and C-section massage.
All massage sessions are booked online. Currently, Marie-Josee does not accept walk-ins.
