Non-Healing Wound Care Treatment Ahead Of 2026 Medicare Changes: Access Expands

KureCare is expanding its wound care services to accelerate patient access to regenerative treatments before stricter Medicare coverage requirements take effect on January 1, 2026. New guidelines set restrictions for patients to qualify for advanced treatments options.

-- The recent service expansion from KureCare, a division of Veracor Group, accelerates patient access to the company's regenerative treatments before more restrictive Medicare requirements begin in January. Patients with non-healing wounds are encouraged to seek evaluation and treatment now, while current coverage options are still in effect.

New rules finalized by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have the stated goal of controlling costs and encouraging evidence-based use, but also will likely limit patient access to advanced interventions, says KureCare. Beginning January 1, chronic wounds must demonstrate at least a 50 percent reduction in ulcer area during a four-week standard care trial for the patient to qualify for skin substitutes, cellular therapies, or other advanced interventions.

However, many Medicare beneficiaries living with non-healing wounds like diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure injuries, or surgical wounds may fail to meet this 50 percent threshold, Kenton Gray CEO & Founder KureCare adds. Additionally, during the 4-week trial, patients could open themselves up to infection, which can eventually lead to amputation or prolonged disabilities.

In many cases, chronic wounds don't heal because treatment addresses the symptoms, not their cause. In addition to providing regenerative therapies, KureCare's protocols address the underlying reasons wounds don't heal - poor circulation, nutritional deficiencies, underlying inflammation, and immune function. The company's procedures work to restore the body's ability to heal itself, naturally and quickly.

"Your family gets you back - not just physically healed, but truly living again," a company official explains. "Healing with KureCare isn't just recovery, it's liberation. A ripple effect that restores families, rebuilds confidence, and redefines what's possible."

Demonstrating the restoration of function will be important in Medicare's new regulatory framework. In addition to the four-week trial requirement, providers will be required to show clear proof that the interventions they request are medically necessary. Wound progression tracking, justification for repeat applications, and other evidence-based documentation will also be essential. Generally, Medicare will require that conservative care must be attempted first, before advanced treatments can be authorized.

KureCare encourages patients with non-healing wounds to reach out before the end of the year to take advantage of Medicare's current, less restrictive, requirements.
