Jimmy Adrian Velarde Joins Independent Film Production Company Resilient Film Studios, LLC

Multifaceted entertainment industry veteran Jimmy Adrian Velarde has joined the independent film production company Resilient Films Studios, LLC.

On a mission to be a global, premium independent film production company, Resilient Films Studios welcomed Jimmy Velarde to its roster which includes Founding Partner Betty Jo Butler and Creative Director and Co-Partner Michael Canyon Drebert. Jimmy brings to the table over 35 years of experience in the entertainment industry including 26 Emmy nominations and 12 Emmy Awards for his production work at the CBS Television Network. Jimmy is especially known for his work with the Late Late Show with James Corden (2015) and Real Time with Bill Maher (2003).

In 1980, Mr. Velarde began his multi-faceted career as a freelance photographer for The Los Angeles Daily News and was instrumental in photographing their highly successful Restaurant and Nightclub Guide. This general market association opened the door for becoming the Entertainment Director of Hispanic Media, the Hispanic branch of Guber-Peters Entertainment. Velarde was also instrumental in producing corporate-sponsored Hispanic Cultural Music Events in the San Fernando Valley.

In 1981, Jimmy found himself as assistant tour manager for blues icons Buddy Guy and the late harmonica man, Junior Wells while opening for the Rolling Stones. This was followed up by Blues Revival Festivals with legends Big Mama Thornton, Big Jay McNeely, Joe Houston, and Koko Taylor to name a few. In 1989, Jimmy’s desire for network experience saw him attain a staff position as a cameraman with CBS-TV City in Los Angeles.

Throughout his long and illustrious career at CBS, Jimmy Velarde worked on many iconic shows such as The Carol Burnett Show, Redd Foxx Special, Real Time with Bill Maher, Late, Late Show with James Corden, Survivor, CBS Sports, The Rose Parade, Hollywood Bowl with John Williams, and The LA Marathon. He is a member of the ATAS, the NARAS, and the SOC. Jimmy also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Pacoima Historical Society.

At Resilient Films Studios, Jimmy Velarde is slated to produce and direct Land of Thousand Dances. Written by Eugene “Geno” Escarrega, Land of Thousand Dances tells the true story of Cannibal & The Headhunters, the 1960s Chicano group from East L.A. that scores a national hit with “Land of a Thousand Dances” while barely out of high school.

On the personal request of Sir Paul McCartney, the band quickly finds themselves opening for The Beatles on a two-week U.S. tour that begins at Shea Stadium and culminates at The Hollywood Bowl. The band begins at Lincoln High School and is discovered and nurtured by Rampart Records label founder Eddie Davis, who plows the profits from his successful restaurants into championing Mexican American musicians and singers and their pioneering "East Side Sound."

Jimmy Velarde’s previous work with Resilient Films Studios includes Confessions, a movie about an angel who is banished from heaven after committing a sin and must roam the earth until fulfilling his penance, which is to compel sinners to carry out a penance of their own. Jimmy served as the Producer and Director of Photography for the project while it was written, produced, and directed by Evette Vargas. A Proof of Concept trailer of the movie has been made available on Vimeo.

Both indie film projects are currently seeking investment production partners and are represented by BjbPresents.

Founding Partner Betty Jo Butler welcomed Jimmy Velarde to the indie film production company by saying, “We are extremely proud to have Jimmy come on board and bring his valuable and keen skillset to Resilient Films Studios. Our work with him in the past was all the validation that we needed of the value he brings to our focused crew. With his involvement, we aim to bring our production capabilities to the next level and tell several more poignant and heart-wrenching stories through our future cinematic efforts.”
