Commenting on the report, Tim Hingtgen, chief executive officer of Community Health Systems, Inc., said, “Healthcare providers have the daily opportunity, and a profound responsibility, to improve the human condition. At CHS, it’s why we exist. Our 2024 Community Impact Report demonstrates how we are fulfilling our purpose – to help people get well and live healthier – and serving as a positive force everywhere we operate.”

*Data from the year ended December 31, 2023
This year’s Community Impact Report features information about some of the innovative approaches CHS is deploying to achieve better patient outcomes, support clinicians, and harness data, automation, and artificial intelligence for decision support and greater efficiency. Examples include a maternal-fetal early warning system that uses AI to make childbirth safer, virtual sitting to monitor hospitalized patients at high risk of falls, remote patient monitoring for patients with chronic conditions to help keep them out of the hospital, and a partnership with Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs to help address drug shortages and the rising cost of medications used in the hospital setting.
The report covers many other topics, including nursing school and physician residency programs, emergency preparedness, cybersecurity, responsible supply chain management, and the Company’s commitment to ethical conduct, compliance programs, and effective governance.
Woven throughout the report are human stories about patients and caregivers. In one, a nurse in Valparaiso, Indiana, cared for a premature baby in the neonatal intensive care unit while the baby’s mother was treated for a blood clot in her brain. In another, a medical scribe in Longview, Texas, pursued his career dreams with the support of the CHS Pathways Program, becoming a registered nurse working in the Intensive Care Unit, and then, advancing to become a nurse practitioner. A story from Pennsylvania shares how a financial counselor provided support, reassurance, and peace of mind for a family that was worried about how to pay for healthcare services after a cancer diagnosis.
“These stories are not unusual. In fact, they happen in our health systems every day,” says Hingtgen. “The dedicated women and men who work across the CHS organization understand their critically important roles as they change lives, save lives, and improve the world around us.”
