Strike Graph Releases 2025 State of AI in Compliance Report

New survey reveals 72.5% of companies plan to incorporate AI into compliance processes over the next 12+ months, with only 4.4% highly confident in their current ability to scale compliance as they grow

Strike Graph, the AI-native compliance management platform, today announced the findings of its 2025 State of AI in Compliance Report that reveals a worrying disconnect between the growing complexity of regulatory frameworks and organizations' confidence in their ability to manage them. According to the report, potential errors (63%) and data security issues (50.5%) are the greatest concerns for respondents adopting AI in compliance processes. That may explain why only 10.6% have adopted advanced, agentic AI systems that are poised to revolutionize the GRC market.

Based on a survey of compliance executives, security leaders, and business decision-makers across industries, the report highlights both optimism and hesitation as AI adoption accelerates inside compliance functions. While 21.3% of respondents report that their business does not currently use AI or automation in any part of their compliance processes, 72.5% plan to incorporate new AI features into their compliance processes in the next 12+ months.

Key Findings Highlight Industry-Wide Compliance Challenges

  • Overwhelming Regulatory Burden: Nearly half of respondents (42.6%) simultaneously manage four or more compliance frameworks, with SOC 2 (45.8%), GDPR (45.4%), HIPAA (42.1%), and ISO 27001 (33.8%) being the most common. Additionally, 54% expect the number of frameworks they manage to increase further.
  • Accelerating Complexity: Half of respondents (50.3%) report that compliance frameworks are becoming increasingly complex, with 55.6% citing this increasing complexity as one of their biggest concerns.
  • Confidence Crisis: The mounting pressure has shaken confidence across the industry, with 42.3% of respondents reporting only somewhat-to-moderately confident (4-6 out of 10) that their current processes can keep pace with company growth.
  • Efficiency vs. error fears: Compliance leaders rank audit readiness (35.1%) and time savings (28.7%) as top reasons to adopt AI, while simultaneously citing potential errors (63%) and data security (50.5%) as their greatest concerns.

Cybersecurity, Cost, and Complexity Concerns of Compliance Frameworks Drive Demand for AI Solutions

87.2% of respondents are moderately, very, or extremely concerned about the continuing evolution of compliance frameworks and the potential impact on business. Cybersecurity, cost, and complexity are the largest concerns regarding current compliance frameworks:

  • Data/Cybersecurity (62%)
  • Costs (Time, money, resources) (56%)
  • Increasing complexity (55.6%)
  • Redundant/Repetitive tasks (44%)
  • Ability to scale needs (34.3%)

AI Adoption Surges Despite Security Concerns

These challenges are compelling organizations to turn to artificial intelligence as a solution:

  • 72.5% of respondents plan to incorporate new AI features into their compliance processes within the next 12+ months
  • Currently, 67.6% use AI in some capacity for compliance management
  • Only 10.6% have adopted advanced, agentic AI systems throughout their compliance processes

Market Opportunity for AI-Powered GRC Platforms

The survey reveals a substantial market opportunity for AI-powered governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) platforms. While 58.9% of respondents don't currently use a GRC platform, 39.5% are considering adoption—and 79% say AI automation will be a deciding factor when selecting a GRC platform.

When asked about priorities for GRC platforms, respondents cited:

  • Improved audit readiness (35.1%)
  • Time savings (28.7%)
  • Reduced errors (12.9%)
  • Scalability (10.4%)

“Our survey data signals that regulatory complexity is growing faster than compliance teams’ confidence in their current systems ability to keep pace,” said Justin Beals, Co-Founder & CEO of Strike Graph. “Organizations are betting on AI out of necessity, not convenience, and weighing the potential time and cost savings over concerns of data accuracy and security. The sizable gap between organizations eager to adopt these solutions and those that have already implemented them reveals a lack of confidence in current GRC platforms. There’s a real need for purpose-built, secure AI-native compliance platforms that drive results while also reducing risk across the organization.”

The report underscores the dual role compliance leaders are stepping into: beneficiaries of AI efficiency gains and guardians against AI misuse. It also signals that the next wave of GRC adoption will be defined by AI capabilities rather than framework coverage alone.
