Public Policy and Government Relations Professional to Support Technology Industry Advocacy

PHOENIX - Aug. 26, 2026 - PRLog -- The Arizona Technology Council today announced the appointment of Mark Fitzgerald as government relations specialist to support the Council's public policy and advocacy efforts by working with government leaders and stakeholders to advance priorities that strengthen Arizona's technology industry and business environment.

"Mark brings extensive experience navigating Arizona's legislative and regulatory landscape, as well as a strong understanding of the issues affecting businesses and communities across our state," said Steven G. Zylstra, president and CEO of the Council and SciTech Institute. "His background working with leaders at the state, local and federal levels will be an asset as the Council continues advocating policies that support innovation, economic development and the continued growth of Arizona's technology ecosystem."

Fitzgerald is a public policy and government relations professional with more than a decade of experience leading legislative advocacy, regulatory affairs and intergovernmental relations in Arizona. Before joining the Council, Fitzgerald worked as an independent public affairs consultant after serving as director of government relations at Capitol Consulting, where he partnered with the Office of the Governor, Arizona Legislature and federal leaders to advance major infrastructure and land-use priorities.

His legislative accomplishments include championing House Bill 2297 to enable the adaptive reuse of commercial buildings for multifamily housing and securing Senate Bill 1162 to establish a 180-day timeline for municipal rezoning decisions. Previously, Fitzgerald served as legislative liaison for the Arizona Department of Housing, where he advised executive leadership and helped secure more than $210 million in combined state funding for housing and homelessness initiatives.

"I'm excited to join the Arizona Technology Council's team and contribute to their work advocating for Arizona's growing technology industry," Fitzgerald said. "I look forward to applying my experience in public policy and government relations to help advance the Council's technology priorities, and strengthen relationships with policymakers and stakeholders across the state."

Fitzgerald's experience also includes policy research with the Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry and serving as a research and project manager for Barbara Barrett, former U.S. ambassador and secretary of the Air Force. He earned a bachelor's degree in public management and policy from The University of Arizona and remains active in Arizona's civic and business communities through the Phoenix Committee on Foreign Relations, Phoenix Arcadia Rotary Club and Sandra Day O'Connor Institute's Emerging Leaders Network.
