GE HealthCare launches CareIntellect for Perinatal, a cloud-first application to optimize care delivery and help send families home healthy

  • Informed by clinicians and built on clinical insights, the solution provides care teams with real-time1 insights designed to streamline perinatal workflows and support timely clinical decision-making.
  • Developed in collaboration with HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading healthcare providers, this solution includes clinical input that helps ensure practical functionality that will help clinicians stay focused on patient care.
  • The solution is part of GE HealthCare’s CareIntellect family of clinical and operational applications; built to allow hospitals to integrate once and add more applications quickly and cost-effectively.

GE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC) today announced the launch of CareIntellect™ for Perinatal2, a cloud-first Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application designed to deliver clear, actionable insights that help clinicians improve maternal and fetal care.3 CareIntellect for Perinatal supports clinicians by integrating information from disparate clinical sources in a single place, making it fast and easy for clinicians to monitor status, annotate clinical events, search historical data, and remotely monitor patients—with the aim of providing timely patient insights. This is the second application within GE HealthCare’s CareIntellect family of clinical and operational applications, built to help healthcare systems quickly and easily deploy and scale new applications.

CareIntellect for Perinatal simplifies workflow streams by integrating key maternal and fetal vital statistics like uterine activity, blood pressure, fetal heart rate, and maternal SpO2 into a unified, chronological view. This streamlines workflow to reduce administrative burden and cognitive overload, and helps care teams to stay focused on patient care. Clinicians can quickly review patient status at-a-glance and search events without time-consuming, manual review to synthesize data streams necessary to understand patient status.

By simplifying vital sign monitoring and integrating data from multiple sources, this solution allows clinicians to focus on direct patient care. With the support of advanced technology, clinicians can more confidently manage patient information, streamline communication and follow every detail of mom and baby’s health through a consistent user experience regardless of location.

Real world feedback from labor and delivery experts helped shape the solution’s development, with HCA Healthcare facilitating a comprehensive process to provide insights from clinicians. “Input and feedback from clinicians was fundamental to the solution’s development,” said Jeff Caron, Chief Digital and Technology Officer, Patient Care Solutions, GE HealthCare. “That clinical voice informed every stage of development to help ensure relevance and impact at the point of care.”

"This collaboration is consistent with HCA Healthcare’s commitment to using its scale to improve perinatal care. We believe input from 29 physicians and 85 nurses in 12 hospitals will help to ensure this technology meets caregivers’ needs and supports the aim of achieving the best possible outcomes for moms and babies,” Dr. Michael Schlosser, Senior Vice President and Chief Transformation Officer at HCA Healthcare, added.

“We believe this tool has the potential to provide a new level of support for our clinicians,” said Dr. Owen Solad, Vice President of Clinical AI, Digital Transformation & Innovation at HCA Healthcare. “The goal is to support seamless integration into their workflow, delivering actionable insights directly at the point of care – all while upholding our commitment to patient safety.”

GE HealthCare’s digital strategy is cloud-first, AI-powered, and software-enabled—building intelligent hardware as well as standalone applications and software solutions to support better care delivery and enhanced patient outcomes. CareIntellect for Perinatal is part of the CareIntellect family of applications which use a common, cloud-first infrastructure running on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. Customers who adopt CareIntellect applications can quickly and easily install new capabilities and applications without having to take a costly and time-consuming product-by-product integration approach. CareIntellect applications share a common data infrastructure designed to simplify the user experience through features including single-sign on, centralized access management and billing, and seamless updates and upgrades. This family of applications is part of GE HealthCare’s efforts to accelerate delivery of innovative SaaS offerings to the healthcare industry.

GE HealthCare will showcase CareIntellect for Perinatal at booth #3232 during HLTH 2025, taking place from October 19-22, in Las Vegas, Nevada. For more information on CareIntellect for Perinatal, please visit: https://www.gehealthcare.com/products/maternal-infant-care/careintellect-for-perinatal.
