The Legendary Diner Founded in 1935 Celebrates in Four Locations

The Texas Inn, one of Virginia’s oldest continually operating restaurants, is celebrating its 91st birthday with a throwback deal: 91-cent hot dogs on Tuesday, October 13.

The Diner, known as “T-Room” to long-time customers, opened in Lynchburg in 1935. All four locations located in Lynchburg, Harrisonburg, and Richmond will offer their award-winning hot dogs for this special occasion. There is a limit of 6 per customer to ensure that everyone gets a chance to buy hot dogs at 1980s prices.

“For one day a year, we like to sell a whole lot of hot dogs for next to nothing,” said Dave Saunders, owner of Texas Inn. “It’s our way of saying thank you to the friends and customers who have kept us going for 91 years. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and it’s become one of our favorite traditions.”

For Sanders, the annual birthday tradition is all about giving back to the customers who have supported the restaurant for generations.

Now in its eighth year, the annual birthday celebration has become a Texas Inn tradition, drawing crowds of hungry customers looking to get their hands on a piece of Virginia history. Saunders is hoping that Texas Inn can beat its one-day sales record of 10,000 hot dogs.

“We’re known for serving 1,500 people, 15 at a time, but on our birthday we might serve over 2,000 customers, so be sure to come early!” said Saunders, who expects big crowds again this year at all four locations.
