Peter L. Miller, CPCU, Continues as CEO; Succession Plan Reflects Organization's Commitment to Long-Term Vision and Growth

The risk management and insurance community gained a new executive leader today as The Institutes announced that Katherine Horowitz has been named President, effective immediately. Pete Miller will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer. The appointment was unanimously approved by The Institutes' Board of Trustees.

For the professionals, organizations, and students who depend on The Institutes to stay ahead in an evolving risk and business environment through education, information and resources, this announcement reflects a deliberate investment in their future. Over 18 years, Horowitz has been central to The Institutes' expansion into a diversified enterprise of more than 20 affiliates, brands, and business units, bringing more resources, more expertise, and more opportunity to those interested in risk management and insurance than ever before.

"Kate has been at the center of everything this organization has built over the last 18 years," said Pete Miller, Chief Executive Officer of The Institutes. "When I brought this recommendation to our Board of Trustees, I did so with confidence and I wasn't surprised by their unanimous support. Kate's track record of growing and integrating our business units, her relationships across the RMI community, and her years of working directly alongside our Board speak for themselves. As a not-for-profit, we have one accountability above all others, to leave The Institutes stronger than we found it, so that anyone interested in risk management and insurance can depend on us for decades to come. I believe naming Kate as President does exactly that."

In her expanded role as President, Horowitz will continue to lead The Institutes' business units while taking on a broader external presence, representing the organization with partners, RMI stakeholders, and the communities it exists to educate, elevate, and connect.

"The Institutes have always been about something larger than any one of us, and I have spent 18 years here because I believe deeply in what we do and who we do it for," said Katherine Horowitz, President of The Institutes. "I am truly grateful to Pete and to our Board of Trustees for their trust and confidence, and I am deeply honored by this appointment. I could not be more energized by what we will accomplish together for every student, every professional, and every organization that depends on us to help them succeed."

The appointment was unanimously endorsed by The Institutes' Board of Trustees, whose membership includes CEOs and senior leaders of the world's leading risk management and insurance organizations.

"The Board's unanimous support for this appointment reflects the confidence we have in both Pete's leadership and in Kate's extraordinary contributions to this organization," said Kara Raiguel, Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Institutes and President & Chief Executive Officer of Gen Re Corporation. "We have watched Kate lead through major chapters of The Institutes' evolution and we share Pete's conviction that she is the right person to help lead this organization into its next era."

Horowitz joined The Institutes in 2008, and over the course of her tenure has held progressive leadership roles that reflect the full breadth of the organization's growth. A graduate of Neumann University, where she earned her bachelor's degree summa cum laude, she also holds a master's degree in strategic management and executive leadership from Penn State University. Prior to joining The Institutes, she worked in Talent Acquisition at Susquehanna International Group, a global investment and trading firm.

In her most recent role as Executive Vice President and Head of Business Units, Horowitz led a broad portfolio spanning the Agent & Broker Group, Claims Litigation Management (CLM), Claims Pages, The Institutes CPCU Society, The Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, the Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I), the International Insurance Society (IIS), the Insurance Research Council (IRC), the Pacific Insurance Conference (PIC), Risk & Insurance Group, and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association (IASA). She has also overseen Partnerships, Events, and enterprise mergers and acquisitions, and has been instrumental in integrating the organization's growing portfolio of affiliations. She serves on the Board of Directors for the CPCU Society, the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation, the IIS, the Triple-I, the Black Insurance Industry Collective (BIIC), the Catastrophe Resiliency Council, The Institutes RiskStream Collaborative, and the IASA.
