Dr. Sharline Aboutanos, a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in Richmond, has been named among Virginia’s Top Doctors of 2026 by Richmond Magazine in the Plastic/Cosmetic category. The recognition honors physicians selected through a peer-nomination process that surveys medical professionals across the Commonwealth. This is her eighth consecutive year receiving this recognition; she has previously been recognized in both reconstructive and pediatric surgical categories as well.

Richmond Magazine’s Top Doctors list is compiled each year based on nominations from physicians, who are asked to identify colleagues they would trust to care for their own family members.
Dr. Aboutanos is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and maintains a practice that spans cosmetic, reconstructive, and pediatric plastic surgery. Her cosmetic work includes procedures of the face, breast, and body, while her reconstructive practice focuses on breast reconstruction following cancer treatment and pediatric conditions such as cleft lip and palate and craniosynostosis.
As one of the few female board-certified plastic surgeons in the Richmond region, Dr. Aboutanos has built a cosmetic practice that emphasizes natural-looking results and individualized surgical planning. Her most requested procedures include facelift and neck lift surgery, breast augmentation and breast lift, tummy tuck, and liposuction, along with non-surgical treatments such as Botox, dermal fillers, microneedling, and laser skin rejuvenation.

The Top Doctors recognition in the Plastic/Cosmetic category comes amid steady national demand for plastic surgery procedures. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons 2024 Procedural Statistics Report, member surgeons performed more than 28.5 million minimally invasive procedures and more than 1.5 million cosmetic surgical procedures in 2024, with facelifts, neck lifts, and tummy tucks each showing year-over-year growth.
“My goal with any facelift, breast surgery, or tummy tuck is a result that still looks like you in five years, ten years, and twenty years,” said Dr. Aboutanos. “That takes careful tissue handling and planning, and it takes patients who are willing to trust the process rather than chase a trend.”
Richmond Magazine has published its Top Doctors feature annually, with categories spanning primary care, surgical specialties, pediatrics, and subspecialty medicine. The publication vets nominations through its editorial process before publishing the final list each year.
