Lila Z Rose is an award-winning media creative, author, and the founder of Minted Genius, a start-up mentorship and training firm that helps executives and entrepreneurs drive sales and elevate their personal brand through her Authentic STAR Power System.
A multi-faceted talent, Lila is the co-creator of two internationally acclaimed animated series, RoboRoach and Carl Squared. Raised in an immigrant, multicultural Canadian family, Lila has consulted on several Hollywood film and series projects in Los Angeles. She is the host of the Minted Genius podcast, where she explores how to live creatively amidst life’s challenges. She has also written a travel memoir, earning recognition as an indie author from Canada's largest book retailer, Indigo.
With a B.F.A. in Theater and an M.A. in Novel Writing, Lila brings theatrical flair to her debut romantasy novel, LOVE, CUPID. This one-on-one interview shares Lila’s background and experience writing the book.
Tell us about LOVE, CUPID.
Modern love is so complicated even the God of Love is spiraling.

What inspired you to write LOVE, CUPID?
My tangled, impossible international dating life inspired LOVE, CUPID. It’s been a 20-year journey that began as a musical cabaret, debuting to standing ovations at Ottawa’s National Arts Centre. My collaborator and friend, Dr. Lawrence Tarof, composed the melodies, while I poured my heart into the lyrics. That process opened my eyes to the fact that I was a hopeless romantic on a mission to redeem love from the battlefield it had become.
At the time, my relationship status was “it’s complicated,” and so many people around me seemed to be riding their own roller-coaster dating disasters. I jokingly confronted Cupid—and he talked back! A swaggeringly sarcastic Lovegod emerged, grappling with heartbreak and longing to save both his marriage and love itself.
Inspired by the timeless Cupid and Psyche myth, the story transformed into a Mount Olympus-meets-Malibu adventure and it was a story I felt compelled to share.

How did your background and experience influence your writing?
As a Canadian immigrant from the Mediterranean port-city of Haifa, it was Hollywood movies that advanced my English skills early on. Naturally, I became obsessed with the entertainment industry, working as a media creative in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton – and finally reaching the glittery Malibu shore.Soon, I felt compelled to capture the blend of celebrity and scenery from Topanga Canyon to Beverly Hills. But I also longed to express my ancient roots and fascination with myth. Until, just like Apuleius, the ancient immigrant author that chronicled the Cupid and Psyche story 2,000 years ago – I also became an immigrant writing about love.
What is one message you would like readers to remember?
LOVE, CUPID explores love in all its messy, magical, and transformative glory—reminding us that even the divine can struggle with matters of the heart. With love at first sight, forbidden desire, and second chances all woven in, I hope readers see that love isn’t perfect, but it’s always worth fighting for. At its core, the book is about the resilience of love and its power to transform us in unexpected ways.
