UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESSWIRE / January 6, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Paul W. Birdsey Jr. for his excellence in wildlife and fisheries management work. After three decades of service in fishery and wildlife operations, Mr. Birdsey is recognized for his contributions and accomplishments as he spearheads his company, Iconoclast Fishery Analytics.

Introducing Mr. Paul W. Birdsey Jr.: Fishery and Wildlife Expert

Over the last few decades, Mr. Birdsey has dedicated his career to wildlife and fishery management. Prior to founding and owning Iconoclast Fishery Analytics in 2023, he outlined his path with commitment and passion. His professional journey began in 1976 when he received an Associate of Science in wildlife technology at Pennsylvania State University-DuBois. Four years later, Mr. Birdsey went to Logan, Utah, to earn a Bachelor of Science in fisheries and wildlife science at Utah State University (USU).

By 1986, Mr. Birdsey graduated with a Master of Science in limnology from USU. Throughout his career with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, he contributed to a broad array of fisheries and data management projects. Mr. Birdsey has now translated that experience into his own company to assist clients in building a project from scratch or providing post-project data management and analysis skills. In addition to his expertise in database development, data analysis and project management, facilitating teams is one of his core strengths.

Mr. Birdsey's Decades of Excellence in Fisheries Management

In Mr. Birdsey's earliest days, he held several positions as a seasonal biological technician and technical writer with consulting firms before working as an urban fisheries biologist in Kansas. After receiving a Master of Science, he served as a research project biologist at the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (UDWR) until 1991. By 1992, he had fully transitioned into a position at UDWR as a programmer and analyst, which he held until 1997. From 1997 to 2002, the UDWR promoted him to a hypersaline systems ecologist role, followed by the government agency's federal assistance coordinator position from 2002 to 2004. In 2012, Mr. Birdsey earned a managerial role in UDWR's Regional Fisheries department before he retired in 2016 as the office's coldwater sportfish coordinator.

Mr. Birdsey's Insights and Accomplishments

As Mr. Birdsey builds up his business, he shares his excitement about new perspectives becoming more prevalent within fishery and wildlife analytics. He has consistently advocated for a multidisciplinary approach in previous years and those efforts are now coming to fruition. Mr. Birdsey is also passionate about awarding credit where it's due. "I don't say, ‘look at what I did,' but rather, ‘look at what we did,'" he notes. He recognizes the significance of acknowledging everyone's work and not just the contributions of a select few. Upon retirement, he explained that those he mentored were present rather than the bosses he previously worked for.

While Mr. Birdsey takes on tasks with an ecologist mindset, his work has led to remarkable accomplishments regarding the Great Salt Lake. He established lasting management criteria that stabilize fishery operations while securing sustainability within the lake's ecosystem. He also launched a project involving multiple agencies to restore the San Rafael River in Utah for native fish. This small initiative between himself and a colleague soon became a flourishing, multimillion-dollar passion project.

Mr. Paul Birdsey's Vision for the Future of Fishery and Wildlife Operations

As Mr. Birdsey looks ahead, he aims to incorporate his years of experience into his current business endeavors. He believes project management's productivity and proficiency are paramount, specifically within governmental agencies. Over the next five years, Mr. Birdsey will continue dedicating himself to implementing this philosophy, whether partnering with agencies or private corporations. He also hopes to become more involved with the environmental community, assisting with management growth objectives for aquatic ecosystems.
