Wyoming Virtual Academy Students Are Ready to Take Charge of Their Futures

The students of Wyoming Virtual Academy (WYVA), an online public school serving K-12 grade students throughout the state, are ready to take charge of their futures. WYVA will celebrate its graduates in person with a commencement ceremony on May 19th at 2 p.m. (GMT).

“This will be WYVA’s largest and most successful graduating class in our history,” said WYVA Head of School, Joe Heywood. “We’re excited to celebrate with our students and see what is in store for them after four years of hard work.”

The class of 2023 includes 62 graduates. Approximately 29 students will graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above. 60% of WYVA’s seniors are eligible for the Wyoming Hathaway Scholarship, and many of our seniors have reported acceptance to trade schools, colleges, and universities across the country, as well as several branches of the military. Many students are also headed straight into the workforce or will continue at positions that they have held throughout high school.

Samantha Strahan and Sydney Meineke are Wyoming Virtual Academy’s 2023 valedictorians and plan to attend the University of Wyoming and Sheridan College respectively after graduation. Susanna Barlow is the class salutatorian and will attend a Wyoming college. The keynote speaker for the live graduation ceremony will include State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Megan Degenfelder.

WYVA’s graduates have crossed the finish line and are prepared for their next life adventure. Students enroll in virtual school for a number of reasons—some were looking for the safe learning environment that online school provides, some were looking to get back on track to earn their high school diploma, and others found a community of students and teachers where they could belong for the rest of their academic career and beyond.

Wyoming Virtual Academy (WYVA) students access a robust online curriculum in the core subjects and a host of electives and attend live virtual classes taught by state-certified teachers.

Wyoming Virtual Academy invites all families and friends worldwide to join the celebration. Details of the graduation ceremonies are as follows:
