“I am deeply honored to be selected as the new president and CEO of Children's Minnesota. Having been with this remarkable organization for nearly twenty years, I have witnessed firsthand the unwavering commitment to excellence and the profound impact we have on the lives of the children and families we serve,” said Dr. Chapman. “I look forward to working hand in hand with the dedicated kid experts across our system to build on this strong foundation as we continue to innovate, grow, and uphold our mission to provide exceptional care for all kids.”

In her role as chief medical officer, Chapman supported clinical care delivery and strategic service line growth, oversees quality and safety, education and research, and the Children’s Minnesota employed and independent clinicians of the professional staff. She brings more than 30 years of experience in pediatric health care, beginning her career as a child life specialist where she developed a deeper curiosity for medicine and the healing connection between care teams and patient families.

Her accomplishments include:

  • Fostering a culture of speaking up and continuous improvement, reducing health care harm across the system.
  • Championing the move to label inequity and disrespect as preventable harm, leading to increased accountability for health disparities.
  • Expanding research, education and clinical service offerings.

Chapman trained at Dartmouth Medical School and the University of Minnesota. After residency, she practiced general pediatrics as an owner and President of the Wayzata Children’s Clinic and then pediatric inpatient care leading Children’s Minnesota’s hospital medicine program through its development and expansion.

“We are confident that Emily will lead the organization with the same courage, compassion and integrity that have defined her career in pediatrics. In an ever-evolving health care environment, Emily will provide the steadfast leadership and innovative vision Children’s Minnesota needs to thrive, building on our 100-year legacy of excellence,” said JJ Kuhn, chair of the Children’s Minnesota Hospital Board of Directors.
