On July 10, 2024, during the 2024 Unicorn Enterprise Innovation and Development Conference, Great Wall Strategy Consultants published the "2024 World Unicorns Development Report," unveiling the latest global trends in unicorns' development. The count of unicorn startups is a comprehensive indicator of a region's technological innovation capability, holding significant research value. Along with the new technological revolution and accelerating industrial transformation, global unicorn startups continue to exhibit robust vitality.
Great Wall Strategy Consultants' report shows that in 2023, global unicorn startups were distributed across 45 industry verticals. There are over 50 unicorns in fintech, enterprise digital operation, digital health, artificial intelligence, semiconductor and logistics. Newly minted unicorn startups are mostly found in five verticals: artificial intelligence, fintech, clean energy, semiconductor, and enterprise digital operations, with the number of newly minted unicorn startups exceeding 10.
There are unicorn startups in 47 countries and regions across five continents, with more than 70% of the unicorn startups coming from the US (530) and China (375). Nine nations were listed from three to ten, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Israel, Canada, South Korea, and India.
Additional findings discussed in the report include:
- Great Wall Strategy Consultants’s report demonstrates that nearly half of the global unicorns reside in the Americas, where there are 572 unicorn startups, 48 of which are newly minted in 2023.
- With a significant proportion of unicorns in the field of consumption and life services, Asia has the second-largest unicorn population worldwide.
- There are over a hundred unicorn companies in 19 European countries. There are 123 unicorns in Europe in 2023, spread over 19 nations, with the majority of them based in the UK, Germany, and France.
- Great Wall Strategy Consultants’s report indicates that Africa and Oceania have 6 and 4 unicorns respectively. The only decacorn in Africa, KuCoin, appeared in the Seychelles.
- The four unicorns in Oceania are all located in Australia. Australian unicorn startups are mostly related to the digital economy.
