-- California Teen Center has expanded capacity in its Yuba City Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), giving Sutter County families faster access to structured daytime care for teens struggling with depression, anxiety, and related mental health conditions.

According to a UCLA Center for Health Policy Research policy brief, 45% of California adolescents ages 12 to 17 reported mental health difficulties, with higher rates found among girls, multiracial youth, and lower-income teens — gaps that can be more pronounced in rural and semi-rural communities. California Teen Center has expanded its PHP capacity to help address that disparity, giving Sutter County families a structured, evidence-based alternative to weekly therapy without requiring travel outside the region.
The PHP is designed for teens ages 12 to 17 who need more clinical structure than weekly outpatient therapy but do not require inpatient hospitalization. A California Teen Center spokesperson said the program combines individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy with psychiatric oversight, giving teens daily clinical support while they continue living at home.
Treatment plans are individualized, and an on-site licensed teacher supports academic continuity during the program. For teens who need less intensive support, California Teen Center also offers an after-school Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a standard outpatient track of two to three sessions per week, providing a step-down continuum as teens progress.
Family sessions are held weekly, giving parents practical tools to support their teen's progress at home between structured treatment days.
California Teen Center is DHCS-licensed and Joint Commission accredited. The center works with major insurance providers, including Anthem, Blue Shield of California, Carelon, and Aetna, and staff assist families with insurance verification as part of the intake process, the center says.
